SWCA Environmental Consulting Inc. is currently seeking an Ecosystem Design Engineer who can contribute to the growth of our ecological restoration practice in Northern California as well as support SWCA's ecological restoration projects throughout the U.S. The ideal candidate will have experience in stream, wetland, and tidal marsh restoration; water quality treatment retrofits; and coastal/living shoreline design projects. The candidate must have a strong skill set in hydraulics, hydrology, and AutoCAD Civil 3D, as well as a working knowledge of GIS principles. This position would be based in Northern California and could be remote or located in any of our Northern California offices (San Francisco, Oakland, Half Moon Bay, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, or Sacramento). Projects will include sites throughout the west including California, the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, and support other project sites across the country. The position will entail travel on occasion to assess project sites, collect field data, and meet with clients.
Participate in the engineering design, reporting, and development of construction plans for the above listed project types.
Participate in field work to assess existing site conditions, assess reference reach sites, and perform geomorphic surveys.
Develop construction plans within the AutoCAD Civil 3D platform.
Perform hydraulic, hydrologic, and water quality assessments, modeling, and analysis in support of the above listed projects.
Communicate and work with project managers to keep projects on schedule and on budget.
Attend and participate in annual internal design training meetings to support personal skills growth and career planning.
Work independently and multi-task regularly in a fast-paced environment; work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, environmental, or coastal engineering, or related degree) required.
Experience with HEC-RAS and other hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and analysis software required.
2 years of experience in ecosystem design required.
Experience developing ecological restoration design construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
5 years of experience in ecosystem design preferred.
Master's degree in engineering (civil, environmental, or coastal engineering, or related degree) preferred.
California Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
