South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution, fiber services, member-owned cooperative. The cooperative is a leader in distribution technology and is headquartered in a new and progressive facility in Martinsville, Indiana. SCI REMC serves seven counties including Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Johnson, Putnam, and Clay with over 3,650 miles of energized lines and 33,905 meters serving 29,100 members.
The Fiber Division of SCI REMC offers quality broadband services to homes and businesses plus fiber transport systems to ensure a reliable network service with a high level of member/subscriber experience satisfaction. The project is fast moving with nearly 6,000 residential members connected in the first two years and continues to grow quickly.
SCI REMC is looking for applicants for a Construction, O&M Specialist opening.
This key position’s general responsibilities include:
The Fiber Construction, O&M Specialist installs and maintains fiber optic cables underground or overhead, including constructing, splicing cable, and repairing wiring connections, including the NID outside of the home. They also provide service turn-up for subscribers/consumers. The Specialist will string line, install terminals, handholes and pedestals, on poles up to 60 feet using bucket trucks, and/or by climbing or ladders, where appropriate. May safely use a lasher, when needed.
May climb utility poles and work safety to attach communication lines and terminals using minimum approach distance guidelines near electric lines.
May construct new lines or isolate and troubleshoot existing line for repairs by reviewing, interpreting, and working with various maps, drawings, and blueprints and/or testing documents or equipment.
Tracks inventory and materials used for jobs and allocates it appropriately.
Responds to emergency and non-emergency fiber outages and coordinates with Fiber Service’s Team Lead.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of one-year hands-on, demonstrated working experience with fiber construction and maintenance planning and deployment, with three years’ experience preferred.
Minimum of one-year hands-on, demonstrated work experience with the operations and usage of an aerial lift, pole/structure climbing, and lashing device operations with three years’ experience preferred.
Must be able to understand and effectively use the Cooperative’s mapping systems.
Must be able to interact effectively with customers in a variety of situations, exercising good judgment and maintaining a positive company image. Must have excellent customer service skills.
Must be proficient in computers.
Must have good organizational and self-motivational skills.
Must be able to work effectively daily with a variety of individuals.
Must be able to work well with others and work independently.
Must be regular in work attendance.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license if needed.
