The Department of Management and Human Resource Management (M/HRM) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is recruiting for a tenure-track faculty position in Human Resource Management at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in the Fall 2022 semester (effective date is August, 17th, 2022). Required Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD in Human Resource Management, Management with a focus on Human Resource Management, Labor Relations, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Sociology or Ethnic Studies with a focus on people in organizations, or other related areas. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1st, 2022. The Department of M/HRM encourages a balanced focus between research and teaching, with expected contributions to university service increasing in conjunction with advancement. Applicants should exhibit a demonstrated potential to teach and engage in curriculum development for Human Resource Management and/or related management subjects effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as demonstrated potential for scholarship leading to publication. Motivation to contribute in service roles to the department, college, university, and community, is expected as well. Importantly, CSULB is dedicated to equal treatment within our very diverse campus, as such, demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population is essential.
Beyond the above qualifications, the Department of M/HRM desires applicants with teaching experience at the college level, expertise in at least one functional domain of HRM (e.g., compensation, recruiting, selection, training), published research in their field (preferably in top-tier journals), related business, professional or managerial experience, and the potential to develop relationships across the university’s surrounding community. Expertise in compensation and benefits, labor relations, or leadership and motivation would strongly complement our current faculty’s expertise and interests.
About our department: The Department of Management and Human Resource Management contain three specialty areas: strategic management, human resource management, and supply chain management. The HRM group in the Department of M/HRM is striving to build one of the best undergraduate and graduate HRM experiences on the West Coast. Our HRM faculty are experts in one or more functional domains of HRM, ranging from selection to diversity management, and offer a focused learning experience for our students. Faculty also hold active research programs in HRM and OB. The Department of M/HRM works in conjunction with a volunteer-based Human Resource Advisory Board at CSULB composed of managerial-level HR professionals across the Long Beach and Orange County areas devoted building our HRM program and scholarship. The Department also advises a student group devoted to HRM (Human Resource Management Association), which organizes guest speakers, professional development, SHRM or PIHRA integration, participation in HR Student Case Competitions, and other events.
