The Department of Civil Engineering in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth seeks term Instructors (Job Code 9404) that may be part- or full-time to teach during the 2021-2022 academic year (8/23/21-5/22/22). Position responsibilities and expectations include teaching senior design capstone course and other courses in structural engineering.
Duties: Teaching (approximately 90%): • Teach senior design capstone and other courses in structural engineering • Demonstrate high command of their subject matter • Have well organized course plans and deliver courses clearly to students • Participate in curricular development • Mentor students regarding specific coursework both inside and outside the classroom • Support the University’s goal of creating a positive and inclusive campus climate for all by advancing equity, diversity, and social justice • Maintain a consistent and positive student teaching evaluation record
Service (approximately 10%): • Participate in ongoing professional activities of one's discipline • Advise undergraduate students
Required Qualifications: • Master’s degree from an accredited university in a relevant field • Effective oral and written communication skills appropriate to the position
Preferred Qualifications: • College-level teaching experience (graduate TA experience acceptable) or professional experience in a relevant field • Experience teaching in the structural engineering discipline including senior design capstone, steel design, wood design, or masonry design • Effective teaching and pedagogy skills appropriate to the position • Licensure as a professional engineer (P.E.) or commitment to obtaining licensure when eligible • Evidence of the ability to work effectively with diverse groups • Demonstrated experience with assessment
