The operator will perform a variety of activities in support of the water and wastewater systems.
1. Reports to: Director of Utilities
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
3. Other: Has contact with other city employees and the general public.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Maintain, repair and install items relating to water and wastewater systems.
Operates various types of equipment necessary in the daily repair, installation, and maintenance of water and wastewater systems.
Maintains and performs repairs on water mains, wastewater treatment, service lines, service laterals, meters, meter boxes, pump stations, lift stations, valves and fire hydrants.
Scheduled on-call for nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Installs, connects, services and reads water meters.
Sample water and wastewater accurately according to schedule.
Complete daily and monthly monitoring reports and documentation.
Learn and operate SCADA system.
Uses hand tools to dig ditches or holes, and shovels dirt, gravel, asphalt, or sand.
Operate and maintain the cityƒ??s public swimming pool.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Dependable / Punctual at work and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
ƒ?› Maintenance Principles: processes involved in upkeep of property and equipment to the optimum state of cleanliness, repair, and efficiency.
ƒ?› Office Software: current database programs including work order software, general programs used by the City and train on the Cityƒ??s SCADA software.
ƒ?› Basic Math: add, subtract, multiply, and divide accurately.
ƒ?› Safety: enclosed space, trench safety, and safety procedures related to the job. Must wear required safety equipment and uniform.
ƒ?› Cooperation: establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
ƒ?› Accuracy: attention to detail in dealing with numbers, words, and ideas.
ƒ?› Mechanical/Technical: safely operating diverse equipment including hand tools, power tools, large pumps, tractors, sewer equipment, water storage facilities, fire hydrants and valves.
ƒ?› Oral Comprehension: listening to and understanding information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
ƒ?› Sequencing: correctly following a given rule or set of rules to arrange things or actions.
ƒ?› Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Appropriate, valid class C Texas driverƒ??s license or higher required.
High school graduation or G.E.D. required.
The ability to obtain a class D water and class D wastewater license through the TCEQ within twelve months required.
Possession of a water and or wastewater license through the TCEQ preferred.
The person performing the duties of the Utilities Operator may encounter the following working conditions: extreme vibration, dirty environment, electrical hazards, extreme temperatures or weather conditions, air contamination, moving mechanical parts, noise, machinery such as excavators, loaders, and backhoes, and the responsibility for the safety of others.
Employment is contingent on passing a drug screening and criminal history background check.
