The Department of Civil Engineering seeks a laboratory technician for departmental laboratories located in the Peter Kiewit Institute on UNL's Scott (Omaha) campus. These laboratories are utilized heavily by faculty and students both for instructional and research use, with a specific focus on small and large scale testing of concrete, metals, and similar materials. The qualified lab technician should have training, or be eligible to receive training, in the use of an overhead crane and forklift. The qualified candidate should have the knowledge or, willingness to quickly acquire knowledge of the use of hydraulic RAMs and actuator, sensors (such as LVDTs, accelerometers, strain gages, thermocouples) and data acquisition systems related to these labs. Responsibilities will include working with faculty and students regarding issues of safety, material disposal, supply inventory and procurement, labeling and recordkeeping, inventory management, equipment calibration and repair, equipment procurement and setup, project scheduling, management of access and other related tasks under the supervision of the Department of Civil Engineering Laboratory Manager and the Department Chair of Civil Engineering.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Relevant coursework, or specialized training beyond high school including Construction Technology, Engineering Technology or related field; equivalent experience considered. One (1) year of experience in concrete or steel construction or closely related position. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history. General equipment operational knowledge (Overhead cranes, pallet jacks, forklifts, pumps, electric and gas motors, hydraulic RAMs and/or actuators) required along with knowledge of computer software operation, material procurement, record keeping, safety training, initiation of safety protocols and fixture assembly
Ideal candidate will have and Associate's plus two (2) years' of experience working as a civil engineering technician or equivalent position or equivalent education/experience.
Posted Salary: $25.00/hr minimum
