Summary of Duties:
Performs higher level administrative, fiscal and technical duties for the county director and provides office management support for 4-6 employees. Duties include providing administrative support to the county director; estimating, developing and monitoring budgets from a variety of sources, including grants, contracts, county government, conferences and contributions; recruiting, training and supervising part- time or full-time office staff and volunteers; provide first line horticultural, entomological, and environmental support to the public who call or visit the WSU Extension Island County office.
High School graduation or equivalent AND three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in office/clerical, secretarial, bookkeeping, accounting, or general administrative work; OR equivalent education/experience.
Associates Degree or equivalent.
Excellent people skills and quick evaluation techniques to decipher client needs.
Knowledge and use of telephone, computers and standard office procedures. Knowledge of budgeting process.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated competency in electronic communication methods and software for daily activities including programs in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent.
Ability to relate to various personalities with tact, courtesy, and patience.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Employee shall conduct him/herself ethically and professionally at all times.
Strong awareness of community relations.
Educational background in agricultural, biological, or environmental sciences.
Three years of directly related experience in an Extension-related program.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and creative environment emphasizing youth and adult development.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
Demonstrated ability to communicate using oral and written skills.
Demonstrated ability to relate to and collaborate with a wide range of people from varied social and economic levels, ages, races, ethnic backgrounds as well as in rural, suburban, and urban settings.
Ability to act with professional discretion when resolving programmatic and personality conflicts.
