The Senior Labor Relations Specialist serves as the "point of service" delivery in the provision of labor relations services and provides expert guidance in the practice of labor relations. In this capacity, the Senior Labor Relations Specialist provides specialized services in the disciplines of employee relations and labor relations. This includes education, consultation, coaching, conflict mediation, and administration of human resources policies, procedures and practices, and collective bargaining agreements (CBA). Services are delivered through consultation. The focus is on meeting broad organizational needs and objectives, carrying out Cedars-Sinai's labor relations philosophy. The position functions autonomously with minimal supervision, a high level of political acumen and is expected to make decisions, handle complex problems, and provide support to clients including managing the same issue with both employees and management. Collaboration with the HR LOB team in the provision of labor relations consulting services is required. Incumbent must demonstrate a high-level of independence, creativity, problem-solving skills and participate in project work.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides broad scope and full depth of labor relations advice and perspective when delivering consultation and assistance to leadership across the organization, to colleagues within Human Resources and staff in bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit positions.
Consults with management, colleagues, and staff on Interpretation of and compliance with CBA, presentation at grievance hearings and other formal proceedings, and positive employee relations with both bargaining unit staff and non-bargaining staff.
Facilitates and oversees union requests for information. Ensures timely and thorough response, providing relevant information as appropriate. Protects the confidentiality of personnel, patient, and business information.
Understands importance of sound employee relations practices to ensure positive employee relations with bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit staff. Collaborates with HR staff in the delivery of consultation with full consideration of case information, business needs and applicable policies, laws, and regulations with ability to influence positive outcomes.
High School Diploma/GED.
Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Human Resources or related fields preferred.
Four (4) years of Labor Relations experience with experience in multiple HR disciplines including Employee Relations, Compensation, Benefits, Training and Recruitment, union and non-union workforces, 7 years is preferred.
