About the Position: The City of Grand Junction is accepting applications for the Recreation Superintendent position. This position is one of three senior management positions within the department. The position performs managerial duties as related to the planning, organizing, and direction of the recreation programming and services of the City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department.

The City offers a 15-step pay plan. The hiring range for the Recreation Superintendent is $6,472 - $7,143 per month, which represents steps 1 to 5 of our pay plan. Each year, with City Council's approval, employees receive an additional step increase of 2.5%.
About Parks and Recreation: The Department is under the larger City of Grand Junction umbrella, which is a home-rule municipality. Duties include overseeing, coordinating, and providing recreation programs and services of the City including adult and youth sports, aquatics, recreational activities, youth camps, fifty-plus programs, fitness and wellness programs, outdoor and environmental programs, programs during out-of-school time, early childhood programs, special events, and clinics.
This recruitment is happening at a very exciting time, as the City of Grand Junction recently adopted a Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan in January of 2021. This lead to an election on April 6, 2021, where dedicated funding was secured on taxation from sales of marijuana. The PROS Plan is the blueprint for the future of the parks and recreation system, and a dedicated source of funding for implementation is now in place. The Superintendent will support the implementation of it. This is but one of many very exciting things happening in the City of Grand Junction currently. The selected candidate will be centrally involved in helping us continue to maximize the quality and quantity of service for Grand Junction, to build community, and better the Grand Junction quality of life.
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation administration, business administration, leisure studies, or a related field.
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible recreation program development experience including two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, Park and Recreation Professional certification is desirable.
