PLANT OPERATOR , Facilities-Central Utilities Plant (CUP) , to have primary responsibility for operating plant equipment. Will start, stop, regulate, monitor, and operate all equipment; review problems and provide recommendations; perform routine operational tests and adjustments; maintain accurate records and logs by performing detailed operating rounds and safety inspections and sign where required; perform equipment switching and LOTO tagging; observe, record, and interpret indication from instrumentation and control systems located directly on the equipment; check daily consumption rates; monitor supply inventories; and collect water samples, perform water chemistry testing, and make adjustments as necessary.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : a third class stationary engineer's license (license 1C preferred); a driver's license; at least one year of operating experience in power generation and a central utility plant in an academic, hospital, marine, or industrial environment; a high school diploma or its equivalent; and ability to lift weights of up to fifty pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: stand for up to sixteen hour periods; working on ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations; wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety shoes and glasses, dust masks, ear protection, protective suits, hot gloves, and CUP-issued safety-rated uniforms. Working with hazardous materials may be also required.
The schedule for the position is Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. and Friday and Saturday, 6:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M.
MIT will conduct a background check (including checking criminal records) for finalists. For current MIT SEIU members, this background check will be done for finalists who are bidding for a promotion or for a voluntary transfer to another classificationor seniority unit.
