Reporting to the Manager of Project and Portfolio Management in Library Technology Services, the Senior IT Project Manager is a member of a high-performing, cross-functional team of library domain trusted advisors, project managers, business analysts, quality assurance experts, user experience and design experts, and technical analysts. The team stewards and manages a diverse portfolio of library technology services and platforms through effective project management, business analysis, Agile process, application design, and outreach and engagement with Harvard Library and other academic stakeholders at the University and beyond. Our focus is on delivery of world-class solutions to fulfill the core objectives of the Harvard Library: To advance scholarship and teaching through the collection, creation, application, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge.
The Senior IT Project Manager will plan, conduct, and supervise the completion of complex information technology projects benefiting the Harvard Library and relating to other University IT priorities. These projects require high levels of functional integration and involve multiple disciplines to be managed. The person in this role will develop project plans, document key business requirements, and facilitate decision making amongst a wide variety of stakeholder groups; develop content to facilitate discussions in project meetings and document outcomes; participate in and support an affinity group of project managers and Agile facilitators to foster the sharing of best practices and promote strong project management standards in LTS; and advise Harvard Library colleagues regarding post-project operations. The Senior IT Project Manager may manage several projects simultaneously and will play a key role in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, primarily those in the Harvard Library.
Typical Core Duties
Responsible for assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project
Responsible for project discovery
Serve as expert regarding scope and project objectives, solution’s value and technology, as well as the role and function of each team member
Ensure work completion within schedule, budgetary and design constraints
Make decisions about analysis, design and testing; solve complex technical problems; and, when necessary, provide alternative methods for achieving goals
Work collaboratively with colleagues to leverage resources for successful project completion
Make independent decisions within the confines established by sponsors/business owners
Serve as primary contact with user groups and stakeholders
Leverage steering and executive committees for decision-making, change management, and communications
Absorb and leverage project related technology to ensure effective project management and collaboration
Advise unit/school regarding post project operations
Provide training to clients/staff
Apply Harvard University’s IT technical standards and best practices
Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT Code of Conduct

If you accept our offer and join the team, your position will be based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you will begin your work remotely. The remote nature of this job is only temporary, and all remote work must be performed within the United States. We currently expect that you will work remotely until July 31, 2021. We will, of course, keep you updated as we know more. Once the University and your supervisor determine that it is appropriate, we look forward to welcoming you to campus. At that time, you will be required to move your work location to the Cambridge campus as a condition of continued employment.
Flexible and/or remote work options beyond August 2021 can be discussed during the interview process.
