The Associate Director, Business Operations, reports to the Center Director and works in close partnership with the Center Leadership Team to administer the strategic objectives for the growing and evolving Center for Decarbonizing Chemical Manufacturing Using Sustainable Electrification (DC-MUSE). The Associate Director will serve as the Manager and primary Administrator for the Center and will manage the interface between NYU faculty, staff, students, and administration, the six university partner institutions, and the Center's corporate affiliate members; build strong relationships with the Sponsor (The Sloan Foundation), international partners, and local, state, and federal governmental agencies; and manage the day-to-day activities of the Center. Specific areas of responsibility for the Associate Director include managing Center operations including budget, expenditures, and reporting; managing communication, marketing, and engagement functions; supporting the IP strategy and technology transfer objectives for the Center; supporting the diversity and education efforts of the Center to create a climate of excellence and inclusion, and representing the DC-MUSE team at functions and events. This is a 2 year fixed term position.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Engineering, science, management, or related field.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree or Professional degrees such as MBA or other sufficiently rigorous technical and business education are preferred
Required Experience: 7+ years program or project management experience working with a university, institutional or commercial research lab performing scientific research
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: A willingness to learn about the principles of post-graduate level R&D in engineering (chemical, electrical, etc.), chemistry, or utility industries, including refinery or chemicals plant operations. Skills and experience shall include supervision of professional-level employees, business and technology management, and as many of the following as possible: experience with grant writing, IP prosecution, experience reviewing legal documents and agreements, experience with technology development, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and start-ups, experience in mentoring and teaching students and young professionals, experience managing complex interdisciplinary research projects or programs, experience preparing complex reports, managing budgets, organizing events, implementing initiatives, and creating processes, excellent problem solving and organizational skills with attention to detail, excellent presentation skills and experience with public speaking, strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with people from various backgrounds, and the ability to work independently and lead teams.
