Stanford University is looking for an Operations Specialist who will provide outstanding customer service to the Stanford community. The Operations Specialist will work closely with a dedicated team of academic technology professionals to provision classrooms and informal learning spaces that provide equitable access, foster a firm and abiding sense of community and belonging, and that support well-being and inclusivity so that all students can be engaged, powerful learners.
Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, the Operations Specialist provides technical training and support to students and instructors for computer hardware, software, and audio-visual equipment. The Operations Specialist supports the smooth operation of student computing resources, print services, classroom technologies, and AV installations in classrooms, residential computing clusters, and informal learning spaces. The Operations Specialist monitors systems including user support/ticket tracking, and makes minor and/or preventive equipment repairs and deliveries as necessary. The Operations Specialist also monitors systems alerts, work queues, inventory, and allocates resources and manages inventory. The Operations Specialist may assist in managing student employees, including recruiting, hiring, scheduling, mentoring/coaching.

User Support and Training
Provide high quality customer support and training to students, instructors and staff in classrooms, residential computing clusters, and informal learning spaces
Triage incoming support requests, dispatching timely assistance
Manage the support request queue, ensuring high quality customer service, prompt and effective response.
Ensure issues are effectively resolved at the tier 1 level
Own Tier 2 support requests and escalate to Tier 3 as necessary.
Install, configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and secure computing resources, peripherals, and audio-visual equipment.
Image computers and deploy systems and peripherals
Test and verify a variety of A/V installations and perform basic troubleshooting procedures.
Train non-technical staff in the use and care of equipment
Act as Technical Expert in Computing Support Environment:
Ensure classroom and informal space readiness
Support the smooth operation of student computing resources, classroom technologies, and AV installations in classrooms, residential computing clusters, and informal learning spaces
Support classroom and technical operations as assigned, including AV support and refresh, computer cluster imaging and deployment, and remote access to desktops and software
Implement projects as assigned, serving as a technical contributor
Resource Management & Inventory:
Manage space and equipment inventory, asset tagging, and software licensing
Make minor and/or preventive equipment repairs and deliveries as necessary
Produce regular usage reports to support data-driven decision-making (Sassafras)
Manage storage spaces
May assist in managing student employees, including recruiting, hiring, scheduling, mentoring/coaching.
Other duties may also be assigned.
Experience installing and configuring desktop computer systems in a networked computing environment, Mac and PC imaging, and in applying diagnostic techniques for problem troubleshooting.
Experience with enterprise management of print systems, inventory, equipment, and software applications and site licensing and management.
Experience supporting student technology in residence halls
Ability to apply diagnostic techniques for problem troubleshooting.
Ability to apply AV/IT best practices, including information security, physical security to problem resolution and troubleshooting
Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem solving skills in a variety of situations.
Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation, bending, lifting, standing, and carrying equipment.
Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21-40 pounds.
Occasionally kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, grasp forcefully.
May need to work at heights greater than 10 ft.
This position will be regularly scheduled to work afternoons/evenings, and may work on-call rotations.
Travel locally and cross-university.
