Harborview Medical Center’s (HMC) Edward Thomas House Medical Respite at Jefferson Terrace has an outstanding opportunity for an Hourly/Per Diem, Variable shift, ARNP; Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant.
Harborview’s Edward Thomas House Medical Respite at Jefferson Terrace program provides care for patients discharged from hospitals, clinics and EDs who are homeless and too sick to function on the streets or in shelters and not sick enough to stay in the hospital. The Respite Program is operated by Harborview Medical Center under a contract with Seattle -King County Public Health. The ARNP; Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant functions independently in a staff position to implement the role of expert practitioner, consultant, educator and researcher within the specialized area of patient care. The ARNP/PA-C possesses and exhibits a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in the provision of health care directly to the patient, family or community, or indirectly through guidance of care by other professional personnel. The ARNP/PA-C performs within the scope of licensure and in accordance with clinic, hospital and university policies/standards.
Harborview’s Edward Thomas House Medical Respite at Jefferson Terrace, is a collaborative project among six area hospitals and Health Care for the Homeless Network. The program provides nursing care 16 hours per day and non-clinical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Nurses provide up to twice daily care for acute issues, as well as IV infusion and complicated wound care. Mental health clinicians complete a psychosocial screening to assess housing, mental health and funding needs. This is a 34 bed medical shelter with a harm reduction approach to care.
SCHEDULE: Hourly/Per Diem, Variable Shifts
LOCATION: Harborview Medical Center Campus - Seattle, First Hill
REQUIREMENTS: Nurse Practitioner: Master’s Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing AND Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges AND National certification as a Nurse Practitioner AND ACLS certification OR Physician Assistant: Licensure as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Washington with national certification from a national certifying body (NCCPA). Applicant must be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the Organized Medial Staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By-Laws for hospital-based positions. AND ACLS certification
DESIRED: Four to five years of experience working with a healthcare system. Passion for working with a homeless population. Experience with the concepts of harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and trauma informed care Experience practicing with Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing and patient centered treatment planning.
