Position Summary:
Student Housing is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 240 staff employees, 300-400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 9,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft. Currently, Student Housing houses 45% of UCI's enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI's 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). Student Housing also provides maintenance and repair services to student residents.
The Department of Student Housing builds, maintains and operates facilities that promote and support a learning-centered and resident-focused organization. Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor the incumbent will perform skilled painting for various interior and exterior painting projects throughout Student Housing, maintain painting tools and equipment, maintain stock, keep storage room in a clean and organized condition, provide instruction to staff assisting with painting projects. Work may include evening, weekends or overtime.

Ability to follow, model and promote conduct that adheres to the University of California Principles of Community. Trades-level skills in painting to support painting training, troubleshooting, inspection, specification development, etc. Ability to make accurate projections of time, labor and painting materials. Ability to identify sequence tasks required to complete a painting project. Ability to create, improve and monitor work standards, procedures, and system that ensure effective service delivery. Ability to work independently and to follow through on assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in group/team setting. Skill in taking initiative, setting priorities, and managing time to complete work in a timely manner. Ability to respond with flexibility and efficiently to frequent changes in task focus, competing priorities, and multiple deadlines. Ability to work quickly and accurately with close attention to detail. Ability to identify and analyze a problem, perform research, make recommendations, and implement solution as assigned. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a broad variety of individuals in person, on the phone and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituencies including administrators, staff, students, and vendors. Ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism. Knowledge of and ability to prepare paints to match specified colors by mixing. A working knowledge of University policies and procedures.
Special Conditions Required:
Available for overtime and weekend work. Work schedules are subject to change to meet department's needs. Department can require overtime work to meet operational needs. Department can operate and assign shifts seven days a week. Able to climb stairs, ladders and use motorized equipment/lifts. Must be able to communicate in English - both verbally and in writing - for the purpose of instruction and record keeping. Must be able to pass background check.
