Campus Venue Services, a division of University Services, provides a broad range of event, performance, and venue support services for the Princeton University community. The Venue Services unit provides facility and event management for mixed-use spaces, including East Pyne, Frist Campus Center, Julis Romo Rabinowitz and Louis A. Simpson International Building (JRR/LAS), the Lewis Arts complex (LCa), 701 Carnegie, and Overlook; supporting tenants, event presenters, users, and guests.
The Frist Campus Center is a gathering space for the entire campus community with event spaces, classrooms, cafes, a theater, convenience store, mail and package center, and several centers, including the Women’s Center, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Center, AccessAbility Center and the Pace Center for Civic Engagement. The historic East Pyne and Chancellor Green contains a cafe and seminar rooms, as well as an iconic rotunda, often used as an event space. East Pyne houses many language and humanities department offices and classrooms.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Venue Operations Assistant provides a broad range of operational services for the Frist Campus Center, as well as supplemental support in other campus venues. The Assistant is part of a team of venue support staff, including student workers, providing event, technology, and customer service support. With an emphasis on A/V support, the Venue Operations Assistant takes the lead on video projection, live sound, and video conferencing support for the unit.
The Venue Operations Assistant provides event operational support, including set up of A/V equipment, chairs, tables, podiums, easels, and other equipment as outlined by the client request. The Venue Operations Assistant works closely with the venues team, student workers and users to develop advance logistical plans for events. The Assistant ensures accurate and timely set-up and break-down of the spaces. The Assistant meets with the event lead, prior to the start time of the event, to ensure that the space setup and technology is event-ready and meets the needs of the users. The Assistant provides troubleshooting support, when issues arise, including during events, and is capable of providing resolution to issues and/or alternative options. The Assistant often serves as an operator of the A/V equipment during events.
When needed, the Venue Operations Assistant will provide supplemental support, primarily for A/V operations, at East Pyne, Richardson Auditorium, and other campus venues. This support will include meeting with clients prior to events to understand needs and develop support plans, setting up and striking A/V equipment for events, and operating A/V equipment during events.
The Venue Operations Assistant provides facility support for the daily operations of the Frist Campus Center. The Venue Operations Assistant will assist student workers with opening and closing procedures, respond to facility issues, and provide oversight for the care and cleanliness of public spaces within the building, ensuring that public spaces are monitored and that all equipment and spaces are properly maintained. The Venue Operations Assistant maintains a safe venue environment and is familiar with emergency procedures.
With an emphasis on service excellence, the Venue Operations Assistant provides exceptional support for tenants and users of the spaces and fosters excellent relationships with campus partners and service providers. The position requires ability to interact with student workers, various clients and groups across campus, and the capacity to adapt to dynamic, changing situations positively and proactively.
ResponsibilitiesPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Event support in Frist Campus Center
Ensures timely and correct setup of all events which occur in the Frist Campus Center
- Assists with the setup of tables, chairs, portable staging, dance floor, podiums, and easels
- Engages student workers for assistance when necessary
- Reads, interprets, and implements room setup diagrams
- Acts as liaison with clients to provide final physical set-ups and technical detail for their programs and activities
Provides A/V support for events, including video projection, live sound, recording, and video conferencing
- Meets with users to ensure A/V capabilities meet their needs
- Assists clients with setup, use and takedown of A/V equipment
- Provides troubleshooting support during events
- Often serves as operator of video, sound, and/or lighting during events
- Greets clients at start of and is available during each event, to identify and resolve any equipment needs or issues which may arise
- Works closely with Building Services staff to ensure program spaces are cleaned prior to, and immediately after functions
- Supports Dining Services and Catering staffs respectively, to provide adequate tabling for their operations and ensure timely removal of food after events

A/V support in East Pyne, Richardson Auditorium, and other campus spaces
- Provides A/V support for selected events, when needed to assist, in the Chancellor Green Rotunda and Richardson Auditorium, including video projection, live sound, recording, and video conferencing
- Meets with users to ensure A/V capabilities meet their needs
- Manages the design, setup, and strike of A/V equipment
- Serves as operator of video, sound, and/or lighting during events
Facility support
- Responds to facility issues and creates any necessary work orders
- Assists with the overall operational needs of Frist Campus Center
- Inspects and examines the building at open/close for maintenance issues
- Works with student staff, Public Safety and other departments on opening and closing related issues
Other duties as assigned
- Attending regular staff meetings, staff development, training
- Staffing of overtime setups and building coverage as necessary, often occurring outside of regularly scheduled building operating hours. Departmental support of major events in other venues, including convocations.
This Assistant role is a full time, 12-month position, with a flexible schedule that is assigned primarily in the evenings and/or weekends and is based on the events scheduled in the Frist Campus Center, East Pyne, and Richardson for that particular week. Shifts may include 10am – 6pm, 12pm – 8pm, 3pm – 11pm, and 5pm – 1am.

QualificationsESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma and three years of experience in relevant work
- Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work with a flexible schedule, including the ability to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours
- Proficient computer skills
- Proficient A/V skills
