Position Summary
Position operates and maintains cyclotron associated equipment so that high quality radioactive isotopes are produced for PET scans and MIR research.
Job Description
Works with potentially hazardous quantities of radioactive substances and hazardous non-radioactive gases as well as repair electrical equipment and work with shop tools; ability to lift up to 70 pounds; must possess finger and manual dexterity.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates cyclotrons so that radioactive isotopes can be produced in an efficient manner.
- Maintains cyclotrons as well as other equipment and makes minor repairs as necessary. Ensures all systems are operating properly.
- Coordinates the scheduling of machines to achieve safe and efficient use of facilities.
- Informs supervisor when equipment and supplies are necessary in a cost effective and timely manner so they can be ordered.
- Stays abreast of MIR safety policies, regulations and procedures so that proper safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Performs machining work for cyclotron projects and other projects in the division.
- Provides work guidance to personnel as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to perform mathematical computations, meter readings, and proper adjustments to machines to maximize their performance.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certificate with some electronics training.
- One year of related experience.
- Ability to operate and maintain electrical systems.
- Knowledge of RF, magnetic, high voltage, and vacuum systems and their interactive process.
- Must pass certification exam for radioisotope handling approval.

Salary Range
$44,700.00 - $81,200.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
