The Smidt Heart Institute is home to a distinguished team of experts who are setting the bar for cardiovascular treatment in the United States. The Institute unites 16 centers and programs to diagnose and treat the full spectrum of heart and vascular conditions for all patients, from infants to those with advanced disease. Under the supervision of a physician and within the Nurse Practitioner's competence, the Nurse Practitioner provides care to Cardiology patient population in the outpatient clinic.
- Responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventive, acute care through discharge
- Incorporate both independent decision making abilities and collaboration with the physician to provide expert care to the patients
- Independently obtain relevant health and medical history
- Perform a physical examination based on age and history and dictates a progress note if needed with the appropriate physicians
- Performs and/or orders preventive and diagnostic procedures based on the patient's age and history
- Help the physicians provide screening, consultation and answers to incoming questions from referring physicians
- Identifies health and medical risk factors
Education:
- Master of Nursing Degree required
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse practitioner program required
License/Certifications:
- Current State of California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License required
- National Certification by respective accredited professional nursing organization such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) required (or eligible to obtain)
- Current NP Furnishing License required
- DEA license required (or eligible to obtain)
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience:
- NP experience in acute hospital preferred
- Minimum 1 year of Cardiology NP experience strongly preferred
