Responsibilities This position is in the operations unit for the Department of Internal Medicine and as such reports directly to the Operations Manager. Works directly with the Department CAO to develop and implement the annual operating budget for a large, complex department which includes an administrative unit, eleven operating divisions and has a total of 16 operating budgets. This position gathers and analyzes financial data from a variety of revenue and expense streams to prepare a comprehensive and accurate budget. Using financial data to make reasonable conclusions in your daily responsibilities.
This position is also responsible for the monthly reconciliations and external sources agreements needed for the Department Detail Report (DDR) which is provided to the Chair and Division Chiefs which outlines the productivity and expenses by individual division and physician. In addition, this position will provide support by analyzing all operating, reserve and general fund accounts for each division, section and central administration. Prepares additional monthly financial summaries, trends, and ad hoc reports as needed. Provides support for all activities and management of revenue contracts, agreements, and understandings for each division, section, and central administration.

- Experience and ability to analyze financial data and computer reports in order to draw meaningful and reasonable conclusions. Ability to solve problems quickly. Must have strong organizational skills. Flexibility on changing priorities for a very demanding workload. The ability to use independent judgment to make logical decisions.
- Knowledge and experience in budget preparation, analysis, and forecasting with the ability to control complex budgets and recognize potential problems. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and University accounting policies and procedures. Knowledge and ability to allocate costs using cost allocation methods. Knowledge of University contract, agreement, and MOU policies and procedures. Knowledge and experience in the management of accounts receivable, collections and account management
- Intermediate/Advanced skills in using Microsoft Excel and Word for Windows. Ability to learn Department and School of Medicine accounting software and other software for spreadsheets, word processing, and database management.
- Analytical skills to independently and tactfully assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with many individuals in a matrix organizational structure. Ability to work with minimal direction and to take the initiative to follow up on projects.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, use independent and mature judgment, work independently without supervision and commit to excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or a combination of experience, education and/or training.
