THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the study site PIs and supervised by the Program Manager, this position serves as a Bilingual Recruitment Specialist for two projects in the Department of Public Health Sciences: the U.S. Study to Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Intervention to Reduce Risk (U.S. POINTER) and the Oak Park Women Alzheimer's Disease Prevention Program (OWASIS).
The U.S. POINTER trial is a ground-breaking and well publicized study designed to evaluate the impact of multiple lifestyle modifications on cognitive function and brain health among older adults without dementia/cognitive impairment at study baseline. Lifestyle/behavioral modifications will incorporate physical exercise, cognitive training, nutrition, and management of vascular risk factors at two levels of intensity. Primary outcomes are repeat cognitive test scores while secondary outcomes include the collection of indices of physical function and cardiometabolic indicators, among others.
The OWASIS study, centered in Oak Park and nearby neighborhoods, aims to fill the gap in research on sex- and race-based drivers of dementia. The study will offer community health education, clinical assessments, and research opportunities for women of color, who are among the groups at the highest risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias. The study will generate data and seek to answer important questions regarding how and why disparities in rates of AD exist in women of color and provide direct evidence on how to redress these inequities.
The Bilingual Recruitment Specialist will help build relationships, develop new community collaborations, strengthen existing collaborations, and assist with outreach and recruiting for U.S. POINTER and OWASIS. The Specialist will work alongside Dr. Oanh Meyer and the recruitment team to establish rapport with individuals in diverse communities in the Sacramento area and will promote the U.S. POINTER study and the OWASIS program among new and existing community partners and organizations by participating at community events, health fairs, webinars, and other events. The Specialist will meet and collaborate with the leadership and study teams to strategize and set goals toward continued expansion of study and reaching enrollment goals. They will help in collecting data, calling and screening participants, and appropriately documenting events and tailored strategies for each community organization and reporting back to the study team. They will work closely with other members of the U.S. POINTER and OWASIS teams and under the direction of Program Manager, Lead Grassroots Recruitment Specialist, and site-PIs to ensure that the needs of the study are consistently met.
