To perform skilled work in the fabrication, installation and repair of structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, plastics, composition material and wallboard.
** Note: this position will be heavily focused on flooring repair and installation. Candidates with these related skillsets and experience are highly desired; the position will be filled by the best qualified candidate.
Cut, shape and smooth wooden components, using handtools and power tools, including sanders, jointer, routers, planers, saws, drill press and drills.
Assemble, install, and repair structures and fixtures, including floors, walls, partitions, molding, window sash, cement forms, frames, platforms, baseboard, scaffolding, shoring, suspended ceilings, blackboards, bulletin boards, doors, and built-in bookcases, desks, and counters, using nails, screws, bolts, glue, clamps, braces and carpentry tools.
Cut, shape and assemble wood sections according to blueprints or sketches.
Lay floors, including asphalt tile.
Install interior and exterior trim.
Install and repair hardware, including hinges, lock units, venetian blinds, latches and door closures.
Alter or repair furniture or fixtures, including chairs, desks, cabinets and bookcases.
Set up, adjust and clean portable carpentry equipment.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications.
Determine type and dimensions of wood stock to be used.
Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
Journeyman Carpenter License
Minimum of 5 years recent commercial carpentry work experience.
Considerable working knowledge of door hardware and exit devices.
Ability to determine type and dimensions of materials such as wood, acrovyn, laminate, and solid surface materials.
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Considerable knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in carpentry.
Reasonable manual strength and dexterity.
This position will require the ability to work from ladders and scaffolding.
Must be able to fulfill the requirements necessary to drive a University vehicle.
Ability to frame metal stud and drywall.
