Post-Doctoral Fellow – Carbon-based materials for PPE applications. The UC Nanoworld Laboratory will be the workplace of the post-doctoral fellow. There, the fellow will be producing and testing carbon-based materials used in personal protection equipment (PPE) and related sensors and energy storage devices. The post-doctoral fellow will help integrating these materials and devices into firefighter`s garment to improve the cooling of the protective gear. He or she will conduct experiments related to visualizing the cooling effect by using infrared camera and will put efforts to increase the cooling efficiency via different cooling approaches and devices. The post-doctoral fellow is expected to prepare manuscripts for publications and grant reports, as well as to supervise graduate students. Candidates should have an engineering/science background, preferably materials science or chemical engineering. Experience in carbon-based materials such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, woven and non-woven carbon fiber textile for advanced applications, including sensors and energy storage, is desirable.
