Purpose of Position
The Director of IT Infrastructure & Operations reports to the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology and as a member of the IT leadership team contributes to IT strategic, tactical, and operational planning efforts.
The Director is responsible for the management and continuous operation of the University enterprise systems, data network, communications systems, communications cabling infrastructure, audiovisual systems, and physical security technology systems. This includes oversight of strategic planning, operations, and financials related to the associated departmental functions. This is a full-time regular position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees the continuous operation and quality of all aspects of WKU data centers, enterprise systems/storage, data network, communications (voice), communications physical plant, visual systems, and physical security technology services at all Western Kentucky University campus locations.
- Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of provided services while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Reviews applicable billing and expenditures to ensure sound financial practices are being followed and are taking place in an accurate and timely manner.
- Manages IT Infrastructure staff assigning projects, mentoring and monitoring progress, resolving problems, conducting performance reviews, and setting goals.
- Stays informed of current and developing trends in relevant and new areas to assure the department is up-to-date by current professional standards.
- Researches, recommends, and implements system infrastructure changes, enhancements, and maintenance within budget constraints to deliver cost-effective and sustainable solutions that benefit the University.
- Creates cohesive vision and clear direction for the department.
- Provides expertise to efforts in IT operational and capital budget planning.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures proper policies and procedures for the departments are in place and submits proposals for departmentally relevant policies.
- Provides and supervises professional and technical development goals and opportunities for staff.
- Reviews requests for services and supervision on internal and external projects including IT services related to University construction.
- Works collaboratively with IT vendors and contractors.
- Represents the University on committees, at appropriate professional associations, and with university vendors.
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success
- Responsibilities occasionally require working evenings and weekends; sometimes with little advanced notice.
- Demonstrated communication skills, both written and oral, with technical and non-technical staff, at all levels of management.
- Capable of leading both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Capable of writing policies and other forms of mass communication.
Job Requirements:- Bachelor's Degree.
- At least five years direct management experience covering enterprise-level IT infrastructure.
- Demonstrated competency related to IT infrastructure including, but not limited to, systems administration, networking, and communications.
- Experience managing large budgets.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle customer satisfaction disputes.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of complex organizational relationships and an ability to demonstrate influence within such an environment.
